International Conference on “Diversity and Plurality in Media: Reflections of Society” at MCU, Bhopal

Bhopal, 20 December, 2011. Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication is organizing an international conference on “Diversity and Plurality in Media: Reflections of Society” on 27 and 28 December, 2011. The two day conference will be held in the seminar hall of the Administrative Academy at Shahpura. An international conference on this important topic is being held for the first time in the country. The specialty of India lies in its philosophy of Unity in Diversity. That is why media professionals from the different corners of India and the world have shown deep interest on this topic. Renowned philosophers, sociologists, media experts, journalists, media teachers and media researchers from across the world will be participating in this conference.

The co-ordinator of the conference, Prof. Amitabh Bhatnagar informed that the programme will be inaugurated by the Governor, His excellency Ram Naresh Yadav, on the 27th December 2011. The inaugural session would be addressed by Shri. Arun Shourie, acclaimed journalist and former central cabinet minister. Talking about this, the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Brij Kishore Kuthiala informed that the central subject of this conference is about, the way our media is expressing diversity and plurality in the Indian society. In this two day conference, discussion would revolve around the way media is presenting the realistic reflections of the various aspects of social life and also suggestions would be given if it is not so. He told that debates are going on the diversity and plurality on international level as every country is facing the challenges related to this issue. India is facing comparatively more challenges than other countries. Despite multiple languages, communities, castes, and cultures, India has set a rare example of national unity and co existence, due to which it has become a matter of research for all other countries. But how our media is expressing the reflection of this diversity is an issue of concern. Prof. Kuthiala opines that the media has the potential to build up better communication in the society and is responsible for presenting social issues. And this is why, its accountability becomes greater than any other section of the society.

The Registrar of the university told that more than 100 research papers and 200 research abstracts have already been received. These research papers would be published by the publication of the university. Media and Mass communication experts from Kenya, Indonesia, Australia, Oman, Sudan, Britain, Nepal, America, Sri Lanka and the Maldives would participate in this conference. Mr.Richard Linning, President, International Public Relations Association, UK would give a special lecture in this conference. Mrs. Jacqline, business partner of Mr. Linning would also be present here.
